Lessons From Corona Virus (COVID 19)
Good evening readers,
Although I would have wanted to continue on the discourse we have begun, I felt the urge to also lend my voice to the current happenings that is prevalent all over the world now.
First and foremost, we must remember that God is sovereign over the entire universe. He rules and reigns over the affairs of men. Although, it might seem as if Satan is having the upper hand, God’s watchful eyes is upon all of His children and nothing escapes His knowledge and no human experience is out of His control.
As a result, we are to respond to the matter on ground in faith and absolute trust in God. Unbelief is sin and it grieves God when His own do not believe in His ability to keep and preserve them. We can exercise our faith in praise and prayer. Also we must learn and realize that all these are for a purpose- the glory and acknowledgment of God. They are indicators of the coming kingdom of God and the wrath of God outpoured on an unbelieving world. The following are lessons we can learn from the outbreak of COVID 19:
1. The world is ageing. There is no permanent abode in the world. The world is full of uncertainty and we cannot really depend on the world system. We cannot put our hope in this world and it is time to stress further that we are strangers and pilgrims in this world. Paul says that if our hope is in the world alone, we are of all men most miserable 1 Cor. 15:19. Paul charged Timothy to admonish the rich not to put their trust in uncertain riches but on the living God, 1 Timothy 6:17. Nothing in this life is certain but we have eternal life in Christ.
2. The end is near, the harvest of the world is near. Jesus had told us that when we see all these things happening, we should know that the end is near and our harvest back home is imminent. Matt. 24:33-34. Although we are not happy that all these things are taking place but as Christians we are joyful that our flight home is at the door. If all these things produces anything short of joy in our inner man and it comes with terror and fear in our hearts, then we need to examine and ask, Whom and what have I really believed?
3. It is a time for examination and retrospection both individually and collectively. It is time to retreat and set aside with God, How does God view me? (This is not about how we view ourselves or the world’s perception about us). It is time to examine our priorities even as a church.
4. We have to respond trusting in the faithfulness of God. Christians are not to respond in fear or panic because it is contrary to faith and a lack of understanding of the sovereignty of God who has said the hairs on our heads are numbered and not a single one can fall to ground without Him knowing about it. We rest in His absolute power and ability to keep and protect. This spurs us to praise Him and pray to Him in all circumstances.
He is in control and intimately knows ever details of our lives.
4. Finally, these incidents are a warning to a world that has forsaken God. The world is troubled on every side with pandemics like COVID 19, natural disasters, poverty, wars and terrorism. The world is torn upside down yet the Bible makes it clear that worse days are still ahead for those who reject Christ. After the rapture of the saints, the fury and full wrath of God will be poured out without restraint like none has ever seen. There will be plagues and worse/ brutal disasters than that which we have ever experienced in human history. The only way of escape is to turn to Jesus in faith by believing the gospel to avoid the wrath to come.
This is my little contribution even as we go through this season. You are blessed.
